I was browsing through an online (Acrobat format)
edition of the Spring 2005 issue of _AJS
Perspectives_, looking for an article about the MODIYA
project. Interesting stuff, btw : a new hybrid of
Jewish studies, media studies and religious studies,
mediated via an open-source website.
I couldn't help noticing 3 names that I recognized
from hasafran postings and AJL convention program
booklets.
Baker, Zachary. "The Secular Yiddish Schools of North
America Collection at Stanford University" (p. 26-27)
Brief history of the North American Yiddish schools
movement and a description of the collection and its
use.
Kiron, Arthur. "Abraham Joseph Karp" (p. 28)
Obituary of "one of the giants of the world of the
Jewish book", who catalogued the personal library of
Professor Ismar Elbogen and whose collection of
Judaica Americana is currently held by the Jewish
Theological Seminary Library (among his many other
accomplishments).
Lerner, Heidi G. "Teasure Hunting for New Judaic
Resources on the World Wide Web" (p. 18-19).
Heidi discusses such sites as Folk Literature of the
Sephardic Jews, the Academic Guide to Jewish History,
the Humbul Humanities Hub and the Open Archives
Initiative.
{Perhaps we could convince Heidi to let the article be
reprinted in the next AJL Newsletter?}
