I've been asked if there is some way to estimate of the value of an
existing library book collection that is about to go into circulation
in the next month or so. There are approximately 1200 books in the
collection and roughly 80-85% are hardback. Most have been published
in the last 5-10 years by Artscroll, Feldheim, and the like. Are there
any rules of thumb that could be applied to come up with an estimate?

Note that I've already conveyed to the person asking that any such
estimate done by me is not a "professional" valuation. Given that,
how would one go about getting a professional valuation done?

Thanks,
Jean Suplick
