Does anyone have, to give away, back issues of Women's League and/or Hadassah
Magazine from any year 1984 on? I have some scattered issues of both and
I'd like
to make a collection that doesn't look so much like a swiss cheeeze. So if
any of
you are cleaning out closets and drawers or overloaded magazine racks in
the den
or from under the sofa, might you consider sending them to hot muggy Spain?

If by chance you have no back issues of W'sL and/or Hadassah, seems like just
yesterday I was yet again asking for free-b new year's calendars like those
that
are given out by local american and canadian jewish funeral homes or/and
supermarkets. If you have any of these within reach and aren't all that
bothered
about sending them along to Spain, we here in Valencia would be as happy as
penquins with popscicle sticks. Any number from 1 to 10 is acceptable

And for a touch of the slightly silly:
For anyone who happens to be in Valencia during RH/YK, don't be a stranger. La
Javura will be in the Salon Ribera of the Hotel Astoria-Palace for Erev Rosh
ha-Shana, Kol Nidre and Yom Kipur. The 1st and 2nd days of RH will be in the
Green-painted Sinagoga here in my apartment. On Erev RH there's a
fish/milk/vegetarian pot-luck buffet. I make most of the dishes which are 100%
cosher.

It is not for nothing that the "Introduccion al Judaismo" class spends a lot of
time in the kitchen making cosher dishes from the famous canadian-born israeli
Molly Lyons bar-David's cookbooks. For 99.9% of all spanish persons, kosher
is a
really weird albeit interesting, martian-style concept. We must remember that
Spain is the only place on the planet that has been known to put bacon bits
into
lemon sherbert.

Iamim Noraim is free. Lay lead (not a little frightening at times). Pick a
chair.
Have a seat. Everyone participates. Live long, prosper and I'll send a
chocolate
to one and all who take it upon themselves to learn spanish this year; it is a
very useful language.

Shana tova, may it be sweet, healthy and happy.
