I just returned from the Regional Conference on American Jewish History
sponsored by the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the Association of Jewish
Libraries. Even though I was unable to attend the morning sessions, I heard
glowing reports from other attendees about these and the afternoon
sessions. I can personally vouch for the very high quality of the keynote
speech by Linda Silver entitled: "What Fanny, Mamie and Sadie Did: The
Birth of an American Jewish Children's Literature." The afternoon session
that I attended was very interesting; we can look forward to the opening of
the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage this June in Cleveland. A bonus was an
informative talk by Prof. Marc Lee Raphael of the College of William and
Mary entitled "What is American and What is Jewish about the American
Jewish Experience?" In addition, displays of new books were available for
browsing, accompanied by both adult

booklists.

Mazal Tov to the entire chapter on an entertaining and informative
conference, and especially to the chairpersons, Merrily Hart and Jean
Lettofsky.
