I would suggest teaching the Holocaust starting in 5th grade. However,
some recommended titles are: Emil and Karl by Yankev Glatshteyn, The
Doll With the Yellow Star by Yona Zeldis McDonough or Island on Bird

Dear Safranim,
Can anyone suggest a good novel about the Holocaust for 4th graders? In
the past, the students read the wonderful book Number the Stars by Lois
Lowry. The teachers are looking for a new book as good as the Lowry
title. Thanks.
