Dear Safranim,

The Rabbi at my Temple has asked me to come up with videos on different
periods of Jewish history for our after-school (Tuesday and Thursday)
Hebrew School students. They will have maybe an hour a month to learn about
this history. We are talking about an audience of roughly 8-12 year olds.

He mentioned these topics:

   - overview of Jewish history
   - different communities and customs
   - destruction of the Temple and exile
   - Inquisition
   - ghettos, persecution, Shoah
   - state of Israel

I found a great thread on JEDLAB and I've been looking at various videos
from recommended sites and beyond. But starting with the Jewish history
overview, so far I haven't watched anything that I want to share with the
kids. Common problems are narration that mispronounces words, a Christian
viewpoint that pops up briefly (and surprisingly!) well into the video,
content that is way too sophisticated/ironic for my target audience, a
lecturer talking with no visuals(!), etc.

Can you recommend any specific videos (freely available, if possible) that
you've used on any of these topics? Personally for some of these topics I
would be happier using books, but I understand why he wants to use videos.
Last year for 4th grade and up we used the excellent 10-minute HBO
documentary inspired by the book, *The Number on Great-Grandpa's Arm. *Marjorie
Ingall's review in Tablet led me to the film:

  .
So I expect that there is some wonderful material out there but I need some
help finding it.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Shabbat Shalom!
Annette
