Hey all.
Hope you had a great RH/YK, are having a great Sucot and getting all psyched for Simjat Torá

I want to shmooze about something that could be interpreted as my going just a tad bit Over The Top even by my own standards! I can't tell if I am excited, hysterical or just plain scared out of my knickers. Probably a combination of all of the above. But the story goes like this:

My mother is well and strong at 86. May she live to be 120 and not a day less. Up until recently she was nursing a bunch of CDs. About a year and a half ago, surprise surprise, she out-n-out gifted them to me.

Now then, I've been in Spain for 27 years. La Javurá has been around for 18 going on 19 in february. In November, I celebrate my 65th b-day. My remaining years will zip on by. I pondered for about a year and decided that, instead of frittering it all away on retirement cruises and fluffy nothings, I would keep myself active, busy and productively thinking about and planning for futuregenerations until I actually keeled over (k'thunk). It might even be later than I think; (but that is not for me to quibble over). If I die tomorrow, well, so be it, but it won't be for not trying to give La Javurá a more solid future.

So. I cashed in all the CDs and put them into an american checking account. I invested the smaller part with a reputable stock broker (if such a thing exists). Thelarger part of the savings I have spent on a 67sqMeter (~670sqFt), first-floor, rat-hole apartment for the Sinagoga La Javurá.

Curious to say after all these years, I have learned that, despite what one might hear, a synagogue isn't really a building afterall; it's the people inside. Not exactly earth-shaking news. If anything it's a space to be so that whenever people gather, God will pop on by to see what's doing and maybe stick around long enough to have some punch and a danish (or in our case, some horchata and a fartón). The walls and roof themselves are to keep the books dry, and to answer the age old question:
OK, so where are we going to hold this shindig, anyways?
It will be such a relief not to have to hoe that row yet again!

The remodeling phase is about to commence. I wake up almost every morning with a very dry mouth and morning whisps of misty remnants of undefinable nightmares having to do with windows and floors, drainage pipes and nasty neighbours. But then I dismiss it all out of hand. Material problems can be overcome with a little imagination and a magic wand.

The Mezuza Ceremony will be live on SKYPE and USTREAM. I will announce it well before. You're all invited to tune in, of course. Will keep you posted.

On another note, it is because of the foresight of my mum and her CDs, that I have already bought the pure 100% wool yarn and started to knit the scarves (last year it was fingerless mitts) to show my appreciation to all you wonderful persons on the AJL list who have sent calendars and books, good will and moral support. Most likely there will be a lot of Harry Potter inspired patterns. I think I still owe Heidi R.E. a tardis dishcloth (I'll get right on it). I'll see all you guys signed up The Wayward Moon right soon.

Jag sameaj l'simjat torá (one of my most favourite holidays right up there with TubiShvat and Shavuot)
Besos y abrazos
Alba
