AJL-NYMA would like to express its sadness and heartfelt condolences on the
loss of Leah Adler, Head Librarian of Hebraica-Judaica at the Mendel Gottesman
Library at Yeshiva University and long-time member of AJL-NYMA.
Leah served on the AJL-NYMA board and coordinated an AJL-NYMA reference

I will just echo what has been said by so many here -- Leah had many fine
qualities -- she was smart, collegial, good humored -- but the most important
thing that can be said of her is that she was a very kind person. Her passing
is a great loss. May her memory be for a blessing.

I can't remember when I first met Leah, probably when she first started
attending AJL conferences and we were both involved in cataloging. Later, I
often sought her advice when Yeshiva and HUC were both using the VTLS library
system. I found her to be knowledgeable, patient, and kind and always

This morning I was at the home where Leah's brothers are sitting shiva. I
mentioned all the messages that have appeared on Hasafran and they asked me
to forward them, which I have done. I will continue to add those that appear
over the next few days.

This is such sad news. I wasn't even aware that Leah had been ill. She
was such a kind, caring person who obviously put the needs and welfare of
others ahead of her own needs. I always looked forward to seeing her at
AJL Annual Conference and was looking forward to seeing her in LA next
month.

It is so sad to hear that Leah Adler is no longer with us! She had such
elegance of manner and spirit. All who had the good fortune to know her will
greatly miss her combination of integrity, intelligence, and tact.
May her memory be blessed.

Leah was a lovely human being.
We spoke every year at conferences and she was always kind.
She served as a member of the Board and Council and lent her voice quietly, as
she did everything, but with authority.
