North Suburban Synagogue Beth El hosted two screenings of the film The Ghosts of the Third Reich which documents the poignant and anguished stories of descendants of the Nazis, who confront their family's past and communicate their most profound feelings of guilt by inheritance. The filmmaker, Claudia Ehrlich Sobral, and Dr. Bernd Wollschlaeger, who is featured in the film, presented after the film and answered questions. One presentation was for the community and one was for our high school students. Both were extremely well attended and well received. The film and speakers were recommended to me by Enid Sperber and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a powerful and poignant program that looks at the legacy of the Holocaust through a completely different lens.
