Actually speculative/optimistic evaluation should be fine. Optimistic Evaluation refuses to speculate IO for exactly this reason. If a speculative computation attempts to call unsafePerformIO or evaluate the IO from an unsafeInterleaveIO then the speculation is immediately aborted. IO is never speculated.
