quick question: what is the status of hdfs-fuse support these days?
On one hand, it seems to be doing quite well in Hadoop 3, on the
other hand it feels like most downstream distros seem to disable it.
Is it basically at the "contrib" support level, even though it is still part
of the core hd

The repo currently includes the automake and autoconf generated files for the
native build. Per discussion on HADOOP-6421 let's remove them and use the
host's automake and autoconf. We should also do this for libhdfs and fuse-dfs.
