You did run

Hello,
Thank you for your idea.
I did not install fontconfig before, but that also did not help, still
the same monospaced everywhere. However! I ran Icecat from command line
and I saw many warnings (whydid I not do this earlier?!) and they seems
to relate to the issue I am seeing:

Hello,
I think I have messed up a few things with my Guix installation and I would
like to start over with a fresh setup, but I haven't found information on how
to uninstall Guix in the manual.
I am using Kubuntu 18.10 and I had installed Guix from a binary installation
back when it was still

Have you used the fontconfig package from Guix? I believe you need to
install not only the fonts with Guix but also fontconfig.
I think quotes cause it to fail. I just tried quoting the font name in my
settings.ini and it switched to a fallback font. Can you try with the following:
gtk-font-name=Deja Vu Sans 10
No quotes.
It probably helps to use an application to set it too, so you know there's no
silly formatting errors.
I think your words are most clear. Thank you, Ricardo Wurmus!

And I corrected the typo with the "i", but no luck.

Hi, thanks for your reply!
First I tried the fc-match. It returned:
DejaVuSans.ttf: "DejaVu Sans" "Book"
Then I looked for the ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini file. It did not
exist, only "bookmarks" and "gtk.css" existed at that location. So I
created the "settings.ini" file and put in there

Icecat is a GTK3 application. Have you tried setting your GTK3 font?
You can do so with an application like lxappearance
(under the "widget" tab, select "Default font")
Alternatively you can set it manually.
If I'm not mistaken it should be in the file: ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
At the bare
Ah well, at least I now know that I am not the only one with this issue
in Icecat.
Thank you.

Thanks for your quick reply. It did not work for me unfortunately.
I mean, I had those fonts before I installed them via Guix already. I
only tried installing them via Guix to be sure, that there are also some
Guix installed fonts and that it is not an issue of not having any
installed via Guix,

If you do not specify a value for the field, it will take the default. No need

Hi,
Yes, that could be. I do not remember when exactly I installed it, but
it was a few months ago probably.
Is there a way of upgrading without reinstalling it?

Hello Guix!
The example system configuration for full-blown desktop in the guix guide,
mentions to declare "nss-certs" and "gvfs" as system-wide packages.
1) Is it still necessary to declare like that?
2) Can they added automatically by gnome-service-type?
Thank you!

Could you perhaps provide
(shell #~#$dash) -- compiles too, but again:
bob $ su - mom
Password:
/gnu/store/bqmib4vf9mr8dkqx4dqpcqrnb93giwci-dash-0.5.10.2:
/gnu/store/bqmib4vf9mr8dkqx4dqpcqrnb93giwci-dash-0.5.10.2: Is a directory
bob $
this works all right: (shell (file-append dash "/bin/dash"))
