*Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (pbuh) (Al-Maghaazi) Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 598 Narrated Majashi: I took my brother to the Prophet after the Conquest (of Mecca) and said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have come to you with my brother so that you may take a pledge of allegiance from him for migration." The Prophet said, The people of migration (i.e. those who migrated to Medina before the Conquest) enjoyed the privileges of migration (i.e. there is no need for migration anymore)." I said to the Prophet, "For what will you take his pledge of allegiance?" The Prophet said, "I will take his pledge of allegiance for Islam, Belief, and for Jihad (i.e. fighting in Allah's Cause)" Military Expeditions led by the Prophet (pbuh) (Al-Maghaazi) Bukhari :: Book 5 :: Volume 59 :: Hadith 600 Narrated Mujahid: I said to Ibn 'Umar, "I want to migrate to Sham." He said, "There is no migration, but Jihad (for Allah's Cause). Go and offer yourself for Jihad, and if you find an opportunity for Jihad (stay there) otherwise, come back." (In an other narration) Ibn 'Umar said, "There is no migration today or after Allah's Apostle." (and completed his statement as above.) * ** *Believers Are Most Merciful Jihad (Kitab Al-Jihad) Dawud :: Book 14 : Hadith 2660 Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The most merciful of the people in respect of killing are believers (in Allah). * * * *http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=9&tid=20980* * * *The Order to fight People of the Scriptures until They give the Jizyah * *Allah said, * *[قَـتِلُواْ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الاٌّخِرِ وَلاَ يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَلاَ يَدِينُونَ دِينَ الْحَقِّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَـبَ حَتَّى يُعْطُواْ الْجِزْيَةَ عَن يَدٍ وَهُمْ صَـغِرُونَ ] * *(Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth among the People of the Scripture, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.) Therefore, when People of the Scriptures disbelieved in Muhammad , they had no beneficial faith in any Messenger or what the Messengers brought. Rather, they followed their religions because this conformed with their ideas, lusts and the ways of their forefathers, not because they are Allah's Law and religion. Had they been true believers in their religions, that faith would have directed them to believe in Muhammad , because all Prophets gave the good news of Muhammad's advent and commanded them to obey and follow him. Yet when he was sent, they disbelieved in him, even though he is the mightiest of all Messengers. Therefore, they do not follow the religion of earlier Prophets because these religions came from Allah, but because these suit their desires and lusts. Therefore, their claimed faith in an earlier Prophet will not benefit them because they disbelieved in the master, the mightiest, the last and most perfect of all Prophets . Hence Allah's statement, * *[قَـتِلُواْ الَّذِينَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَلاَ بِالْيَوْمِ الاٌّخِرِ وَلاَ يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَلاَ يَدِينُونَ دِينَ الْحَقِّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ الْكِتَـبَ] * *(Fight against those who believe not in Allah, nor in the Last Day, nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth among the People of the Scripture,) This honorable Ayah was revealed with the order to fight the People of the Book, after the pagans were defeated, the people entered Allah's religion in large numbers, and the Arabian Peninsula was secured under the Muslims' control. Allah commanded His Messenger to fight the People of the Scriptures, Jews and Christians, on the ninth year of Hijrah, and he prepared his army to fight the Romans and called the people to Jihad announcing his intent and destination. The Messenger sent his intent to various Arab areas around Al-Madinah to gather forces, and he collected an army of thirty thousand. Some people from Al-Madinah and some hypocrites, in and around it, lagged behind, for that year was a year of drought and intense heat. The Messenger of Allah marched, heading towards Ash-Sham to fight the Romans until he reached Tabuk, where he set camp for about twenty days next to its water resources. He then prayed to Allah for a decision and went back to Al-Madinah because it was a hard year and the people were weak, as we will mention, Allah willing. * *Next <http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=9&tid=20986>* *Allahu Akbar!* __________________________________________________________________________________ B i s m i l l a a h i r R a h m a a n i r R a h e e m Assalaamu`Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, May Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aala bless and reward Sister Aqsa Jihad Fisabeelillah for sending us many beneficial quotations from the Holy Qur`aan and Ahadeeth, the most recent being: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/bukhari/052.sbt.html <<< Fighting for the Cause of Allah (Jihaad) Saheeh Bukhaari - Volume 4, Book 52, Number 73 Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa: "Allaah's Apostle said, 'Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords.'" >>> However, many of our brothers and sisters, especially those who are new Muslims may not understand what our Prophet sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam meant when he said: "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords." So for those who are interested to read the explanation (tafseer) vis-à-vis this hadeeth by Ibn Katheer rahimahullaah, please click on this link, inshaa`Allaah: http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=3&tid=9419 I would also like to mention that this hadeeth is often quoted by some people in order to depict our Prophet Muhammad sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam as someone who glorified violence and killing. However, if the full saying is quoted by Muslims in it's proper context, that image of our Prophet sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam is immediately banished. The full saying is found in another narration in Saheeh Bukhaari - Volume 4, Book 52, Number 210: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/fundamentals/hadithsunnah/bukhari/052.sbt.html Narrated Salim Abu An-Nadr: The freed slave of 'Umar bin 'Ubaidullah who was 'Umar's clerk: 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa wrote him (i.e. 'Umar) a letter that contained the following: "Once Allah's Apostle (during a holy battle), waited till the sun had declined and then he got up among the people and said, "O people! Do not wish to face the enemy (in a battle) and ask Allah to save you (from calamities) but if you should face the enemy, then be patient and let it be known to you that Paradise is under the shades of swords." He then said,, "O Allah! The Revealer of the (Holy) Book, the Mover of the clouds, and Defeater of Al-Ahzab (i.e. the clans of infidels), defeat them infidels and bestow victory upon us." This narration makes it abundantly clear that the Prophet Muhammad sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam taught his followers to hate violence and never to desire conflict with the enemy. However, in the event of a battle, the Prophet Muhammad sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam encouraged his companions to be patient and informed them of the reward promised by Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aala to those who die fighting oppression and injustice. So this hadeeth "Paradise is under the shades of swords" deals with the situation where Muslims are forced to the battlefield as the last resort to defend themselves in which case the use of the sword may be necessary and martyrdom (self-sacrifice) is rewarded with Paradise. This saying should be presented in its full context so that the reader may see that the Prophet Muhammad sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam was a man who desired peace and who patiently endured the struggles thrust upon him by his enemies. Inshaa`Allaah, Sister Aqsa will continue to send us her beneficial postings of ayaat from the Holy Qur`aan and ahadeeth with their respective explanations/tafseer. We ask Allaah the Most High, the All-Powerful, to teach us that which will benefit us, and to benefit us by that which we learn. May Allaah Subhaanahu wa Ta`aala grant blessings and peace to our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.
