If these configuration files were the problem, then I guess solution of
restarting repos and editor wouldn't have worked, which it did. So I
suspect something else is the problem and/or it only takes time (and
use) to manifest itself.

this error means that one of your xml configuration files is broken. It
could be the document views or one of the component.xml files. Otherwise
it might be the actions.xml.
