Pencil does not dissolve in processing reagents and is safe. I have also found the marker pens from Surgipath to be the best of those I have tried, but with the proviso that the labels should be left to dry for a couple of hours before being immersed in ethanol. I routinely use one of these pens

I is my understanding that the Mach 3 is for use on human clinical samples and will not work in mouse tissue. Maybe BioCare technical person didn't realize you were using human cell in the mouse. BioCare has a great polymer for rabbit antibodies on rodent tissue in their ProMark series. "Rabbit
