After a short look into wikipedia I assume, that these proteins can also bind formaldehyde as long as there are aminogroups of lysin and arginine reachable. Crosslinking would be possible, if bound methylgroups come near enough to peptidbinding. If this occurs intra- or intermolecular, who knows?
