You could try hydrogen peroxide - it wil get rid of the heme in the RBCs which is probably giving you the background. I would try a 1:10 dilution (or higher) of the H2O2 (in PBS) that you usually get from the store/pharmacy - undiluted will probably bubble too much and lift off the tissue. Yo
