Formalin with ammonium bromide is the fixative prescribed for traditional
silver and gold techniques for staining neuroglial cells in free-floating
frozen sections. Adding ammonium bromide lowers the pH of the fixative because
of a chemical reaction with formaldehyde. An Argentinian histologist
I believe he is trying to find a textbook that others have used and cover
his questions. There are many textbooks out there and it is time
consuming to review all of them, so he is asking if anyone is familiar
with one that covers his needs.
