We will be setting up our lab on the 2nd floor in the next few months and since
it's been a while since I have set up a new lab I am looking for any ideas you
all have. Our lab is a small one that does

However, due to back problems I found it necessary to have a stand built
for the microtome so that when I was sctioning I reached slightly
upwards rather than crouched over. This all but eliminated the strain on

How fun! All I can say is ventilation, ventilation, ventilation. If you
can't get proper ventilation I recommend Sentry Air Systems. They have
portable fume extractors that use a series of carbon filters, to suck up
the xylene

Hello, I am a small GI lab and our facility is moving to a brand new building!
The building has yet to be built so I have full control on how to design my

Hi everyone,
I am in the process of setting up a new lab. We will process FNA specimens
as cell blocks and then treat them as regular histology specimens.
I am curious as to finding a proper VIP schedule for processing these
specimens. Any suggestions??

If you already saw the drawings for the designated area, is it not too late now
to make changes?If you think you can give input, my only suggestion is that you
set your working areas in a way that they follow the workflow and ideally
should be close to the surgery suits.René

Yikes! I'd say you are in for an adventure alright. My best advice without
writing a book is to hire a histology technologist right away. Then make your
way to the closest lab to you that Will let you visit and benchmark them. Aka
take lots of notes. You might wNt to read CLIA 88 guidelines and

We designed one from scratch without having a previous Path Lab in the
hospital before. We are doing a workshop to that end at NSH in Seattle
(WS 50). If you cannot attend the workshop, I will be happy to help in
any that I can.
