Terjumpa teman satu artikel dari Free Malaysia (salah satu
laman yang tersohor yang diakui oleh gomen; 2 yang lain

Hmmm! So what does that say about the future of the
Multimedia Super Corridor?
Let me put it this way: I don't agree that the success or
failure of creativity in the MSC or of IT acceptance by
Malaysians has anything to do with the Anwar/Mahathir
conflict, unless we are banking on depending on foreign
investors and they are scared away by currency controls
and things like that, which I incidentally support.

At the end of the day, it really depends on the competence
of the decision makers, whether at government or corporate
level, and the worst pitfall for any decision maker is to
get carried away by the hype and hullaballoo of the
disinformation technology (IT) industry, rather than to
implement it intelligently with originality in the context
of local conditions -- taking local habits, preferences
and above all the ability to pay for the services into
consideration.

Our education system encourages conformity of thought and
action, which is useful under certain circumstances.
However it is not an environment which encourages
creativity, innovation and invention, but neither too do
other traditional Asian cultures which demand conformity.

MUNGKIN KITA KENA BALIK KE "DRAWING BOARD".
For example, the Confucian culture of deference to
authority, elders and seniority is all a strategy to
ensure the the ruling class and the privileged elite of
that day remained in power. After all Confucius was a
Mandarin (a civil servant).
The caste system is the same -- a way to preserve the
privileges of the elite priestly class and merchant class
against the working class (outcastes). Not very different
from the masters and slaves in the Southern states of the
United States and incidentally, that "great democrat"
Thomas Jefferson had plenty of slaves too.

In essence, teenage rebellion arises from their belief
that they know something or can do something better than
their parents.
They may be too young and inexperienced to understand why
their parents may be right (that is wisdom, which comes
with experience of life), but that desire to do things
differently is what drives inventors and innovators.

lid, he realised how it could be used as a source of
motive power, thus leading him to invent the steam engine,
which made the industrial revolution possible. He thought
of doing something differently.
Likewise, the personal computer is a result of computer
engineers wanting to do things differently -- to have a
computer in their home -- to do whatever they wanted on it
withough worrying about crashing their employer's computer
system.
I can't remember who invented the conveyor belt, but I
read somewhere that it was a lazy guy who wanted to find
a way to work smarter than harder.
INILAH KERJA GURU - MENCUNGKIL BAKAT TERPENDAM. BUKAN
MENCUNGKIL MEREKA YANG TAK "CONFORM" KERANA PAKAI SERBAN,
MISALNYA.
It's also the same thing with young entrepreneurs who
believe that they know a better way to run a business. If
they are right, the succeed and perhaps become rich, if
they are wrong, they just become another statistic among
the bankrupcies.
So the challenge facing parents with rebelious teenagers
is how to channel that rebeliousness into positive
directions like inventiveness, innovativeness and
creativity of different forms, rather than for it to turn
into negative channels like drug-taking or other frivolous
and wasteful activities.

That should be the way too with our educational system,
but whoa! It doesn't look like we are even trying to get
there, are we? What the decision makers don't seem to have
learned, is that technology is not everything -- at the
end of the day its people and providing them with an
environment and an incentive to be inventive, innovative
and creative.

Finally, lets face it, a PC with Internet access is still
an expensive investment for most Malaysians, and the first
challenge for any government decision maker, is how to
make PC and Internet access available to the masses.
NEGARA KAYA-RAYA. NAK BAYAR DUIT MASUK KOLEJ PUN KENA
PINJAM, MANA LARAT NAK BELI PC DAN BAYAR SEWA. TAK
MUSTAHIL, KALAU KENA CARANYA, GOMEN MAMPU BAGI SATU MURID
SATU PC BESERTA DENGAN SEWA FREE (KALAU KEKAYAAN NEGARA
DIAGIH SECARA ADIL LAH).
Don't take my word for it. Go ask people like young
executives, typists, clerks, manual workers and people
living in low-cost housing whether they can afford a new
PC with Internet access -- unless of course they have a
rich daddy.
