.......As for Prime Ministers, I can recall the late Tun Hussein Onn being
overcome by his emotions when he went on television to talk to the nation on
assuming the post of Prime Minister after Tun Abdul Razak passed away. I
reasoned then that he, like many Malaysians including me, were saddened by
the death of Tun Abdul Razak. It certainly was not because he was criticized
or was disappointed by some outcome or the performance of those under his
charge.
And of course, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir has been moved by his emotions quite
a bit these days. It happens when he talks about the struggle that is
unfinished or like recently, when he talks about the state of UMNO. It is to
be expected that he should feel so emotional because he has been President
of UMNO for the past 18 years and such a long tenure must have established a
strong bond between any man and the organization. Now, as he looks at UMNO,
he is overcome by his emotions because of that bond. So why is he crying ?
He did not lose out in the voting because he was elected unopposed. And of
course, nobody died and he had to take over. One explanation was that he was
so upset over money politics in UMNO, but that does not make sense because
he had been party leader all this while. And Prime Minister too.
If money politics in UMNO happened on his watch, why should he cry? It is
almost like crying over spilled milk, which at least was not the reason why
Tunku Imran cried.
