HAPI doesn't do any escaping/unescaping other than the four ER7 escape
characters (like \T\ to & as you note). The main problem with trying to do
anything more is that presentation of most of the formatting sequences are
fairly dependent on target platform (e.g. things like bold, tabstops
Does HAPI do any processing of the formatting commands in an FT? While it is
correctly changing \T\ to &, I just passes through \.ti+8\ instead of indenting.
