If it's based off of L4D, there is a possibility that mods will work...

Mine is running using same command line as l4d (except I'm starting with the
map c5m1_waterfront). Same server.cfg. I can see it in hlsw just fine, but
it won't respond to connection attempts. It will respond to a bad rcon
password, but not to a correct one.
As an aside, I notice a steam client
Okay I just got it working for me; make sure you're not setting a 'password'
(oops) and also make sure 'status' says your running a map (+map on the
command line).

Whatever server.cfg comes with it (haven't looked) and all manually set

I was able to run it. Make sure you run the srcds_run that resides in
the left4dead2_demo directory.

Some changes were made to reduce the number of ports that were opened but never
used. What I am explicitly configuring on the ports are:
+hostport
-netconport
-steamp
TO install on your box
cmd (enter)
cd C:\L4D2 (enter)
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game left4dead2_demo -dir "D:\L4D2" (enter)
to check to see if your dir was fully installed do this
hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game left4dead2_demo -dir "D:\L4D2"
-verify_all (en

When starting hlds / srcds though, -game has always basically meant what
directory hlds / srcds should look in for the specific mod .dll / .so to
use to start with. Since it's downloading to left

As you've already seen, the dedicated server files for the Left 4 Dead 2
Demo are now available. The game name is left4dead2_demo. We're still
doing some final checks f
running ./steam by itself just gave me basic commands, and "./steam
-command list" didn't return the demo content ... but doing a "./steam
-command update" and then doing "./steam -command list" made it show up
here ... downloading demo content now.

Based on the version number (Checking/Installing 'left 4 dead 2 demo
common' version 2) on the server content I would guess they broke
something and had to delay the release to fix it (they did this with TF2
a few weeks ago, remember?)
