Hello everyone, figured I'd shoot out my first hlds help request
I've run several servers in the past, but never with the intent of hosting a
large amount of players like I plan to do
Essentially, I have a dedicated server with vmware ESXi installed, the specs of
the server itself are as follows:
Quad Core Xeon E5520 @ 2.27GHz16GB RAM500GB HDD
I wish to create a VM to run my new Garry's mod TTT server with.
I've never really gotten into server optimization before, but I've heard source
servers can only utilize 1 physical core?If so, would it be a waste to allocate
more than 1 vCPU to the virtual machine I'm going to create (to run the gmod
server)Since in theory, 1vCPU = 1 Physical CPU core
In addition, I've heard some things thrown around like disabling Hyperthreading
to boost performance, etc. etc.
Anyone have some extra tips on getting my Gmod server to run best with what
resources I have? I can create a virtual machine with anything up to the
physical limitations of my server, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks all.-John AKA Trope
