The cvar has been disabled. So yes you can remove it from the command line.

Thanks for the heads up! As a GSP, at least we can educate our customers of
this news in advance so they don't panic when the time comes. Thankfully we
don't charge for extra FPS so it won't affect us in any major way - though
increased fps has always been a dangerous topic to discuss
I too recently found this to be an issue - as I run over 350 CSS and TF2
servers, trying to update all of them at the same time within a short timeframe
is impossible. I no longer want to rely on valve servers for this.
