Well, you could try posting on the Linux HLDS list :) There really is no "best" flavor, it's whatever you prefer. I for one will recommend Slackware Linux. Packages are easily available for it, has an updating tool, and is rock-solid. The learning curve is steeper than that of Fedora, but once y
