Looks excellent. Good choice with RRDTool. Do we get to guess at the
source and write our own, or might it be possible to release this lovely
tool to the world at

Same as above but sophos (using sophie) for virus scanning and Horde/IMP

Evert,
I am using iptables:
iptables -A INPUT -p udp -d my server ip --dport 27015 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp -s my server ip --sport 27015 -j ACCEPT
This accounts for MOST hlds traffic. All the other ports used are very
minimal traffic and aren't worth accounting for.
Cheers,
James
Anyone know who a Doug Taber is? He emailed me from this list, expressing
his disdain for unbind all. I have no clue as to why, and no return path.

You have to run it as a background process. On the command line that you
are entering ./hlds_run blah blah blah, add a at the end of the
line.
So:
./hlds_run -game tfc +maxplayers 20
Should become:
./hlds_run -game tfc +maxplayers 20
The other alternative, is to launch using something like
do some research on a small program called screen

there are many ways to get this done ... like using screen etc . but I
just use at the end of the command to startup the server to put it into
the background .
./hlds_run -game tfc +ip youriphere +maxplayers 20 +map 2fort
for example
