I never managed to get it to work properly under fc6 x86_64, was a lot

Simple reason, the old
1-127.x.x.x - class A
128-191.x.x.x - class B
192.x.x.x - class C
is now totaly obsolete, and RIRs don't apply it anymore (something to do
with CIDR).
RIRs now gives IPs they can give and don't really care about the old
class system.
In fact this won't help on that
