I'd take a guess in that it lets you send/append that 'password' with each
log message, so that your log server can identify log messages from your
real game servers (with that password set) and ignore malicious servers
sending you fake log data.

As you run plugins, those are most likely the cause. See if you can
strip those servers bare and if they still crash. Just keep the minimum
plugins you must have in order to run wc3 or similiar.
