I've been using an old version and it was working fine all this time.
Checking the source of the version I have, I can confirm it does the same
thing by loading a blank page (which they use to do tracking).

In that case, can you provide the IPs of your servers so I can go ahead

I envy those costs, that's gotta be one hell of a machine.
I don't think I spend $2k a year on my box.

If you configure it right they won't lag because the ad page will be
cleared after it's closed.
If you don't bother setting it up right then that's your fault as a server
owner.
And as a client, if you close the MOTD and the ad just keeps playing, leave
or blacklist the server.
It's quite simple,
I'm connecting to servers across the country (east coast to west coast) and
they load just fine and fast for me on the oldest comp I could find to run
TF2.
But this has run its course for me - no longer discussing it as its off
topic and not the problem.

Also keep in mind, the internet connection the client has to connect to to
see the video most like is not on the same machine as the game server (as
you know). So for 1 client his troute may go to another section of the
country (due to the routing from his isp), while the client was originally
tryi
Then there is something else wrong - I test my servers using the biggest pc
of junk comp I can find in my office with a fraction of that speed throttled
down and it doesn't take no time to download the vid... But again as I said
before this is off topic as the ads is not the issue for this topic.
In case you want to question my dialup connection and my texasinstruments
computer.

That's just it the video's don't lag a connection - it's no different than
any other custom download file that people use from fastdownload locations.
If they complain about lag then they need to stop playing on dialup...these
vids take barely seconds to download on a basic broadband connection.

Then I suppose you can go host your own server where there's no ads, and you
can pay the hundreds of dollars of expenses for servers all out of pocket.
There's nothing stopping you.

Technically there is already a way to opt out of these ads by disabling

Thank you for that excellent, and most well thought-out suggestion. That type
of thing could be a "game-changer" (pun intended) for "communities"/server
admin's. I personally think that's a potential "win-win" all-around -
especially if there is an in-game or at least in-Steam mechanis

Hi,
RIPE has announced today that the last IPv4 block has been assigned and the
IPv4 pool has been depleted.
I am wondering, how far is VALVe with the IPv6 implementation in the Source
engine?
We are fully IPv6 native reachable and awaiting some news regarding this.
