I'm not sure where you got the idea that IRC is full of exploits, as the protocol has been around since before Half-Life was even conceived. You will get a more up-to-date and detailed explanation of the current issues if you join the MM:S IRC channel. The maintainers of that project set that channel up for this purpose.
