When I signed up for these lists, i used @gmail.com instead of
@googlemail.com. Of course it complained when I sent an email and it was
different to my subscribed address.

I had this same problem because I subscribe with an alternate email
address, and my email app, Thunderbird, by default sends out under my
main address, but when it replies it replies using the address the
original message was received under. This meant that, until I figured
out what was going
