ln -s /bin/gunzip /bin/uncompress

Have you tried typing "which uncompress" - in your commandline to see if
the application is in your path (or even installed) - if it isn't then
may I humbly suggest you install it (or ask your friendly root to do it
for you)..
Don't immediately jump to the conclusion that the .bin file is broken -
