Leon could answer this best. I recall that some of the older hlds_l
performance releases had some compiler optimizations, but exactly

Has anyone ever though of trying to take the sdk and write an open
source hlds server? I bet you could find a lot of code from the Quake I
and Quake II dedicated server source. That would be a fun project.
I compiled the Quake II client last night and was running it on an
Athlon 1600+ and a GeFo

increase I saw with Gentoo over distro's like redhat compiled to run on
any x86 system
hlds_l is compiled for Linux on x86 architecture. Sorry!
