It is my understanding that among early brass players, the idea of ventile
holes is controversial. Most think they are a modern addition. Did Reiche's
trumpets indeed have ventile holes?

This was posted on the Natural Horn list - I thoroughly
enjoyed the playing, although I'm wondering why the French
Horn players were lazy and had to sit since the violin
players managed to stand
I mistakenly trashed the recently posted URL of a 1st Brandenburg
