It's not too late to switch. I've found it's actually quite common that horn players don't start out that way. Usually the switch is from trumpet, but woodwinds have done it too. I agree that you should take private lessons if you can afford to do so, and be careful not to push too hard. A l

I heard that in Germany, they pour beer in a horn to 'season' it. The idea was to get that nice 'green slime' on the inside of the pipe, thereby making the hornist 'sound better'. I have no idea nor proof that this works. on the other hand, Germans do better to feed beer to their crying babies
