DoubtfulBill is from the Chicago area originally before coming to SF as
principal horn of the Opera orchestra in the mid-1980's, and my remark was
meant as a joke. He played the concerto perfectly in rehearsal two nights
ago, and as Strauss wrote it.

If he's the same guy I sat next to in the concert band at u of I (Urbana) a
very, very long time ago, well, he used to play C over high C to amuse
himself (and, of course, amaze the rest of the section)
He played a horn with a silver or nickel-silver finish, as I recall.
