I can agree with most of what's been said on this subject so I'm not quoting the posts. The old cellulose lacquers had about a 5% dampening effect. The harder, heavier epoxy based finishes used by Conn and most major manufacturers today has about a 15% dampening effect. That stuff is us

I am an 87-year old female horn player! Yep, still playing in 2 community symphony orchestras and 1 band. In the summer I play with 3 bands!!! Keeps my sanity and I love the friends I have!! I play 4th horn in the orchestras and 3 or 4, or sometimes 2nd in the bands. Depends where needed.

Merry Christmas! I always get inspired at the last minute. I wrote in on Christmas eve a few years ago. I also do my shopping on Christmas Eve. I can never feel the spirit until school is out the the Christmas gigs are done. I don't play on Christmas eve any more, except for pleasure. Luke

Other possibilities are clear packaging tape and nail polish or spray lacquer. I have used all successfully. The down side is that you have to re-do it monthly. However, they are easy to remove and reapply. If the horn has scratched lacquer, the lacquer should be removed because the hand acids ge
