I play in an orch that does an opera every Fall. The transpositions are very
prevelant that when you have Horn in F you almost forget what to do. By the
time we have put on 2-3 performances of the said opera, I feel like an expert
until the next season rolls around!
Who is the New England Horn Society? I live in the Midwest, is there a Horn
Society there?

I am an 87-year old female horn player! Yep, still playing in 2 community
symphony orchestras and 1 band. In the summer I play with 3 bands!!!
Keeps my sanity and I love the friends I have!! I play 4th horn in the
orchestras and 3 or 4, or sometimes 2nd in the bands. Depends where needed.
Just had some major dental work done on lower front tooth. Due to a sharp
edge, which was miniscule, it cut up my tongue, so the playing was a delicate
situation. After it was filed down and the tongue tissue healed, I was ok
again. I shudder when I have to go to the dentist--for more
What is bemo-1?

What happens to horn in A, Ab, B, and Bb? Arn't they referred to as La? Our
orchestra recently did an opera with a vocal group. I did so much transposing,
I almost forgot how to read Horn in F at one place. Any tricks in transposing
when the keys change so ofen?
Glad to hear someone else is normal. My biggest problem, believe it or not,
is horn in E!!

You are so right. If the third horn pokes you in time for you to come in, you
don't really have to count the rests and can simply enjoy the opera!
