The NYO is taken from among the best of Britain's school-age musicians. They
are all at least Grade 8 distinction standard (i.e. about the standard you
would need to reach in order to enter one of the music colleges.)
That concert (and all others they give) is preceded by a 2-week intensive
reside
Last week I came across a listing for BBC Proms on my Guide for the
DiscoveryHD channel. I set it up to record yesterday morning and just
finished watching it. The title was actually BBC Prom 2002. Looking at the
faces of the orchestra I did a little web surfing to find out the ages of
the National

It was the 2002 Prom concert given by the National Youth Orchestra of Great
Britain.
The same orchestra is giving a concert at this year's Proms, on Tuesday August
6th under Tadaaki Otaka.

I totally agree. Britain has a great music system for young people. I can
say that for certain since i myself am in that system. Incidentally, did anyone

Discovery channel, with Simon Rattle conducting a British student orchestra? I
was totally amazed with the musicianship of these students, who appeared to be
16 - 17 years old...I thought I was listening to a professional
