Once again, my attempt a few days ago to post to the list using the web
version of my employer's mail software (which I have to do when reading my
mail at home) was thwarted by the hornlist's protective screening.

I apologize for the fact that this OT posting has even less relevance at
this late date, but Friday seems a good time to toss in a little something
non-controversial (at least, I assume it is) and NHR.

Warning: The following is Rated NHR

So, all of this geographical dispute about Windpassing (and Wimpassing)
brings to mind the most appropriately named heldentenor of all times,
Wolfgang Windgassen (1914-1974). My other favorite, marked at birth for
tenor-dom, has always been Apollo Granforte (1886-1975). Now that would
have been a face-off worthy of WWF; too bad their careers seem not to have
coincided. Though Granforte appears to have performed Amfortas at La scala
and Lohengrin in Barcelona (and elsewhere), he and Wofgang staked out
different territory and he retired from the stage just a few years after
Windgassen's debut.

Sorry that I have nothing to add to the torque-wars.
