Louise Schepel reported on the death of Jan Bos, and asked if anyone else
had heard him live.

I'm very sorry to hear of Mr. Bos' death. I heard him live in the
Concertgebouw in 1955, during a weekend pass from my Army post in Stuttgart.
I think he was playing a double Knopf at the time, but it might have been a
single Bb. I met Mr. Bos briefly, although we talked more to Adriaan van
Woudenberg, the associate principal at the time (who tried my 8D, but didn't
like it). They were all quite cordial to us, and we ended up spending much
of the weekend in the hall, listening to a great orchestra and a wonderful
horn section in both rehearsal and concert. I too was impressed by the
beauty of his sound, and also by his control over dynamics. Sorry to hear
that he's gone.
