I agree with getting a good horn person to go through the valves - esp. for
residual grit. There are many opinions on this very personal oil selection
question, but after you've gotten the problem resolved, I'd suggest you not
use an evaporating oil like Al Cass Fast, but go to Hetman Piston Oil or
Binak 495 which will both last quite a while. I recall the story of a horn
teacher, I believe it was at Kendall-Betts, who fixed the recalcitrant
valves of a student's horn by flushing them thoroughly with lots of Hetman
down the tubes.
