The question of how far ahead in a score or solo piece should one be able to read has baffled me. Now, this is primarily a question for first time sight reading but the question may apply for concertizing as well. Often, in performance when the piece is difficult, I will just simply memorize a

I agree, I mean if you know the style, key, composer, and historic period it is fairly easy to know what to expect ahead. You simply wouldn't be playing Brahms to expect a dodecaphonic melody 12 measures ahead. Alternatively you could just read through every major symphonic work on your own if

If you can sight sing music you better be assured that the fingers will fall into place. Try singing with solfege this will really confuse youbut once you have it YOU HAVE IT- sight reading will be like riding a bike! hoss ___ post: [EMAIL
