Hello Larry, Sometimes in the past, I have been called to save a certain difficult opera performance at last minute. When being asked for the fee, my fee was never exorbitant & I did never abuse the situation, but I had a certain fee which I kept unchanged for a long time. When the other orchestra manager said, my fee were too high for the Siegfried or Fidelio or Rosenkavalier, I told him, he might consider it & call me again one hour later, but my fee would then be the same as the "cheapest" of the guest singers or 25% of the conductor. They agreed immideately to my fee, ...... And they called me again fort similar occasions & offered me my fee.
Being honest will pay back, at least sometimes. ============================================================ =============================================== -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Larry Jellison Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 9:31 AM To: horn@music.memphis.edu Subject: [Hornlist] Favors and good will Prof. Pizka related an experience of being asked by a desperate person for scanned music, then later being told, "never mind". Another situation that needs consideration is when you ask another horn player to substitute in an ensemble. You need to be the person of authority to make the offer. I have been asked to substitute to only be told later either "we need to get the approval of the principal or the conductor", or, "we found someone else to substitute". This is inconsiderate behavior toward those individuals willing to extend a favor to the ensemble. ____________________________________________________________ ________________________ Need Mail bonding?
