But they meant "Jiddish", as there are many elements from
Jiddish folkmusic present in his compositions.  And there is
a lot of banality in these works, which cannot be denied.
They were educated the classic way, off course. Every
country, every people has ist preferences in music too. Is
that negative ? By the way, the Austro-Hungarian Empire had
a long "jiddish" tradition, special with the many Jiddish
speaking people from Galicia, Bohemia & other places in that
vast area. They even had their own military-rabbies.

I heard from someone who played in Vienna in the Tonkunstler
Orchestra that the VPO found Mahler to be "too Jewish".
