Obviously, you are using the publication prepared by Edmond Leloir, as the original tonality is in E. We all know, that for most Bb-horn-players the tonality E is a finger breaker, so Edmond Leloir got the Sonata published as dowm transposed for a half step. It does not matter much, but E sounds a bit brighter.
As far as I remember - had the first print (Breitkopf, before 1810) as part of my collection which is transferred now to the Kremsegg Museum in Austria together with my 80 horns, to be united with the Streitwieser Collection & Louis Stout Collection) - this Sonata is not much different in playing style than Beethovens Sonata. Nicolaus de Krufft (1779-1813) comes from Joseph Haydns many pupils. He used the horn less advanced than did Rosetti, but somewhat more demanding than Beethoven (stamina). He used less "chromatic" (= manipulated) pitches. If I find the copy of the original the few next days, I will come back to this for sure. ============================================================ -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, January 31, 2004 8:19 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Hornlist] Re: Low horn suggestions... Herr Prof. Pizka-you are a resource beyond measure. I know for a fact people like you don't grow on trees. You are correct in sharing that the real trick is to communicate the knowledge in an understandable yet scholarly manner. Such only comes with experience. My hope is that other hornlisters reading this won't get scared away but will absorb every molecule and "internalize" the knowledge. One must play from the heart that is disciplined by the mind. People notice. BTW, might you be able to share any cautions in regards to the Sonata in F by Krufft? Thanks.
