So I have written and deleted 4 replies to this so far. I am not sure why
everyone has been up in arms about this. There are many different ways to gain
mastery of the total range of the instrument. It seems as if some are writing
some methods off just because it did not work for them, or it is not the way
they were taught. Nonsense. The thought that there is only one way is
extremely short sighted. We all have different mouth cavities, lips, lungs,
tongues, horns, mouthpieces, shoes...yes there are some things that are
consistent amongst the top players; aperture, practice habits, shoes...but what
they all have in common is the mastery of musical nuance, a pleasing tone, and
of course...shoes. I say (in an effort to reach those sitting on the fence on
this issue) do whatever you need to do to make it happen, use an extra set of
ears, and most importantly, stay objective.
