Hi Joost & all,
That suggestion was implemented during the recent upgrade of TeachOSM's
Tasking Manager from TM2 to TM3. I'm assuming the task in question was
originally created on TM2, where the default was "#hotosm-task-[task ID]",
and migrated to TM3. Thanks for pointin
Hi Heather & list,
tl;dr; - Let's chat.
Since the beginning of the year, TeachOSM has been collaborating with the
American Geographical Society[1] to host a series of online workshops for
high school (but also college) instructors. The workshops are designed to

Happy to see more mappers making use of public libraries and good on your
library for sponsoring the event. Mapathons are a great compliment to the
library makerspaces, have good mapathon infrastructure, and good staff
support.

Hello HOT-ties,
The government of St Lucia is sponsoring their first ever Map St Lucia day
on 28 February. To encourage greater mapping activity in the Caribbean and
to support this emerging local community, we'd like to encourage mappers
with an interest in the Caribbean basin to participate. Tea

Hello Noah,
Good on you for kicking this off. I was particularly drawn to the section
about training new mappers and getting them to show up for a follow-up
event. Since motivation is an intrinsic part of mapper education, emphasis

Hello list,
Just in time for #OSMGeoweek, TeachOSM with support from Mapstory.org and
American Geographical Society, has released the first OpenStreetMap

The badge is aimed at the newest open mappers of any age and is awarded for

Hi Richard,
Happy to help. TeachOSM maintains an instance of the Tasking Manager for just
this type of activity. Please contact me offline and I'll help you get set up.

Hi Nikolaos,
Here in Indonesia, we're using a QGIS plugin called InaSAFE. Our HOT ID
team does testing of the InaSAFE application, and maintains the InaSAFE
training curriculum and workflow. I suggest you start by looking over the
documentation[1], installing the InaSAFE plugin (assuming you have

Hi Justin,
Since you're doing training work, I'm happy to offer the use of the
TeachOSM Tasking Manager (http://tasks.teachosm.org/) for your
classroom/training activities. That way you can reduce the load on the HOT
Tasking Manager and reserve it for genuine emergencies. Contact me offline

Hi Nick,
Since you're maybe reluctant to put non-emergency tasks on the HOT TM, and
conducting a training/mapathon, I'm happy to offer you space on the
TeachOSM Tasking Manager[1]. It squares well with the TeachOSM mission and
can take heat off HOT resources. If you please log in to the TeachOSM TM

session this Wed or Thu. This is a rather pivotal time for the Indonesian
project and after the Nepal event, we're taking a closer look at our state
of preparedness and how we might extend and fine tune our activities.

Hi Tom,
Glad to see you incorporating HOT into your geography classes. For
starters, I'd suggest you take a look at some of the material we've
compiled on the TeachOSM site[1] , which includes basic information on
creating a workflow, grading & rubric, as well as some case studies.

Hi Ciaran,
Your timing is excellent! There are a group of us here in the US actively
working to stand up a 'TeachOSM' capability and it sounds like your efforts
square nicely with this. TeachOSM has as its core goal to provide tools and
resources for instructors specifically to use OpenStreetMap a
Hi Tom,
Don't take lack of a reply as disinterest. I'm sure subscribers to this
list are happy to hear of your interest in HOT, and that you've
incorporated MapGive into your curriculum. But discussion on this list is
typically focused on HOT activations, management of HOT resources, imagery

In some sense, preparedness and (economic) development overlap aren't
mutually exclusive. Building social and organizational resilience through
the activities of HOT contributes to both.
