That is very useful, thanks a lot. Using a linear curve allows me to
workaround, but I don't understand how two images exposed exactly the
same can look so different. Would it be possible to add more control
over how the images are displayed than the curves, perhaps an EV slider
or textbox?

An EXR image can't be display probably on normal monitor. So the dynamic
range needs to be decreased to be able to display the image. Hugin has 3
different strategies in the preferences to display such images. Not each
display strategy is suitable for each image. So maybe another one is
better sui

Hugin displays different exposures for different EXR files I'm importing
into it. The files were created in Darktable and are properly displayed
in GIMP, but in Hugin they are either washed out and it's really
difficult to make up any details for manually adding control points
